Within about 9 miles
About 7 miles south of La Tremblade, on the south-
9 miles south east of La Tremblade off the D14 and also a stop on the tourist train
is Mornac-
Just across the river from La Tremblade is Marennes, another town which relies on oyster culture, which is celebrated in the newly developed Oyster City.
Close to Marennes is the Château de la Gataudière, 18th century home of the man who introduced rubber to France and now home to an adventure trail high up in the trees.
The port town of Brouage was fortified between 1630 and 1640 by Cardinal Richelieu as a Catholic bastion against the protestant La Rochelle and you can still walk around the walls.
