What to do

Days out - even further afield

About two hours drive to the south of La Tremblade is the mighty city of Bordeaux with its imposing architecture, shopping, gastronomy and, of course its wines.

Just  over an hour away to the east, the town of Cognac straddles the River Charente.  Although cognac the spirit is distilled throughout the region, most of the major names have a presence in the town and all are eager to promote their produce by organising tours and tastings.  Search online for your favourite brand and you are almost sure to be able to organise a visit.

Less than an hour further up the Charente valley, the historic town of Angouleme is home to the Museum of Comic Strips (Bande Dessinée), a must for any fans of the genre.  The Museum is due to relocate to new premises in June 2009.

About two hours drive north east of La Tremblade, near the city of Poitiers, is Futuroscope, a huge, cinematic theme park with several 3D and IMAX cinemas and other spectacular attractions.

About two and a half hours drive north of La Tremblade is the Puy du Fou historical theme park.  Spectacular attractions include Gladiators, Vikings, a Medieval Town, an eighteenth century village and 1900 Market Town.
